When we first got married, we were fortunate enough to be given quite a bit of our parents' old furniture. Later, when we decided to buy some new furniture, we looked around at some of the local department stores and furniture showrooms. We were shocked at how ridiculously high the prices were. We figured that neither we nor any ordinary family could ever buy new furniture without either saving for it for years or going into serious debt.

After doing some research, we discovered that the showrooms and department stores apply a huge markup to the items they sell. They do this to pay for their elaborate showrooms and their salesmen's commissions.

This prompted us to challenge the status quo and find a new approach to the furniture business. We wanted to make it possible for ordinary people to buy the same brand new, high-quality furniture sold in the showrooms at a fraction of the showroom cost. So, we started Jill's Home Furnishings. We have no showrooms, no salesmen, and thus, virtually no overhead. This reduces our costs dramatically and allows us to pass the savings onto our customers. But don't take our word for it--take a trip to your local furniture store or consignment shop and take note of some of the prices they charge. Then, compare their prices to ours.
